Links in Library Search

If you need to quickly share a permanent link, also known as a permalink, to library materials, one way is to use a Library Search permalink. Look for the permalink icon under "Send to."

Permalink option in Send To section of Library Search

Many databases also offer their own version of permalinks when sharing articles. Look for a direct link or permanent link option.

Linking directly to an item

In some cases, you may want to link directly to an item like a book chapter or other item. The URL in the address bar at the top of the page sometimes may not work for sharing.

  • Find the database's persistent link, stable link, or permalink on the item page.
  • Add our proxy prefix to the front of the link if it's not there already: https://login.proxy.libraries.smu.edu/login?url=

The proxy prefix ensures the link will work off campus.

Example of a link with the prefix added: https://login.proxy.libraries.smu.edu/login?url=https://ieeexplore.ieee.org
