Parts of Fondren Library Red Level 1 and Red Level 3 are under construction but remain open. Fondren Library Blue/SIC is permanently closed.

Construction activities have been planned to minimize disruptions, but occasional noise may be associated with the renovation. Our Main Desk staff can guide you to quieter study spaces within the library. Earplugs are also available at supply stations throughout the library.

Impacted Areas

1st Floor

The hallway between the Prothro Learning Commons and the south entrance (Hughes-Trigg side) is closed. 

2nd Floor

The Hillcrest Foundation Exhibit Hall and the restrooms outside the exhibit hall are closed. The water fountain outside the Reading Room is out of order.

3rd Floor

The restrooms are closed. All other areas are open. 

Fondren Blue/Science Information Center (SIC) All Floors

Fondren Blue/SIC is permanently closed. If you need a book with the call number Q-Z, place a hold in Library Search or contact the Main Desk. 

Current Noise Level

Construction noise is from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. There will be no to very low noise at all other times.

Road and Entrance Closures 

Sidewalks around Fondren Library and portions of McFarlin Blvd are closed while our roof is replaced. The entrances on Robert S. Hyer Lane will remain open. 

  • The Hughes-Trigg/OIT entrance on the south side of the building is closed. Accessible entrances with automated doors are the main lobby and Café entrances.
