We encourage you to use Canvas Readings & Resources and permalinks to library materials rather than upload files to help us track usage, improve copyright compliance, and ensure students can access materials off-campus.

Canvas Readings & Resources

The best way to link to library materials is to use the Canvas Readings & Resources tool. The tool organizes your course materials and tracks and encourages student engagement. Once you enable the tool, you can add library resources and course reserves directly inside your Canvas course.

Linking from Library Search

You can use a Library Search permalink. Look for the permalink icon under "Send to."

""

Linking directly to an item

In some cases, you may want to link directly to an item like a book chapter or other item. The URL in the address bar at the top of the page sometimes doesn't work as a link. Find the database's persistent link, stable link, or permalink on the item page and add our proxy prefix to the front of the link if it's not there already:

http://proxy.libraries.smu.edu?login?url=

Example link with prefix added:

http://proxy.libraries.smu.edu?login?url=https://ieeexplore.ieee.org
